Over at Boing Boing, Cory Doctorow has a glowing review of Dark Horse’s current Conan series.
Yes, the entire series!
Many who follow this blog will remember I have a slight (which is a generous downgrade of the description my mania deserves) obsession with Conan comics and just thrill at everything that’s been done in the DH series (Hopefully that doesn’t sound too “company shill,” as I was a Conan nut before my tenure at Dark Horse.), so to see another writer and comic fan just gush about this series makes me feel an overwhelming sense of excitement and fanboy kinship.
Doctorow’s take on Conan is just a great read and hits on so many of the key points that make this series a joy to delve into. If my ravings here haven’t turned you on to this great comic, I suggest reading something a less-deranged writer has to say—take a few minutes and give it a look. It’s just one more reminder that you should be a Conan fan.
Thanks for the link– good stuff; I think a lot of people/most cultures are fascinated by what the writer refers to as ‘pre-civilized’ life. Conan is a cool outlet for that romanticizing. They should do a Dark Horse comic series about Odysseus! How cool would that be? Start at the end of the Iliad and go through the oddyssy? I dig Conan too, but always related more to Odysseus becuase he was described as a man of many wiles, who used his wits more than his brawn (though he definately had some brawn to pull back that bow.) NOTE: that will make no sense if you haven’t read the Odyssey.
thanks for keeping us posted jimbo!
