A few months back, I mentioned that I was lucky enough to be working as an assistant editor on some of Dark Horse Comics’ biggest launches of the Fall. The first of those books, Tom Morello and Scott Hepburn’s Orchid, is less than two weeks away from its premiere, so I thought I’d do a blog post about it.
To address a quick thought you might be having, (Or, rather, one I’m having at least.) “Is this kind of post self-indulgent?” Well, maybe it is a bit, yeah. But when you spend this much time with one project that you’re excited about, it’s hard not to let people know about that or the work you’ve put in. I’m taking a cue from my buddy Ben Morse over at The Cool Kids Table here who, from time to time, runs a feature called “Pimping My Stuff” where he talks about fun aspects of his job at Marvel. I enjoy those posts, so hopefully my own versions of them will be enjoyable, as well! We’ll see, I guess!
Let’s kick things off with the Orchid book trailer, courtesy of the Dark Horse marketing department…
If you’d like to see more, you can check out a full preview of Orchid #1 over at ComicBookResources.com. You can also download a free preview of the book for your iPad, Android, or iPhone by heading over to Dark Horse’s digital store!
Go download that bad boy and enjoy it! Then, show it to your friends and family so they can enjoy it! It’s free! You have nothing to lose… and everything, everything, to gain!
Aside from all that, I also wrote/helped write two posts for Dark Horse’s official blog about Orchid. In the first one, I put out the call for fans to write in with questions and comments to our Orchid letter column. In the other blog post, Orchid editor Sierra Hahn and I delivered some behind-the-scenes insight into the creation of Massimo Carnevale’s cover for the first issue. If you’re not too bored by this post, go read those! They are informative!
And finally, we got the first printed copies of Orchid #1 in house today and they look great!
Pretty damn exciting!
Alright, thanks for indulging me here. It won’t be the last time, but I appreciate you kind and patient individuals who made it through the entire post. Cheers! This blog has devolved from clever insight and well written essays to essentially an online journal anyway, so what’s another record of something I’ve done plastered onto the internet in the long run? At this point, if you’re still following along, I’m gonna assume you care and thank you deeply for it. Again I say, cheers!
Orchid #1 hits comics shops and the Dark Horse Digital Store on October 12! It’s only $1 in comic shops, as well, so heads up!
