The 2014 mustache season was my sixth year participating in the cancer-fighting, mustache growing fundraiser Movember. Over the past five years, my small effort with a single teammate has become a family operation with my brother, father, and sister all participating and with great support from my wife and my mom—not to mention the over 100 teammates we’ve all had within the Ministry of Mustache Growth & Management network over the past half-decade. It’s been a helluva ride!
As of last year, the three teams collaborating under the M.M.G.M. banner (the Northwest, Midwest, and Far East teams) had their best year ever with over $29,000 raised, bringing the five year total to $80,159.92. In 2014, I hoped we could raise enough to crest the $100K mark. We knew it would be a slightly more casual fundraising year, as my October wedding led to us beginning our Movember effort and recruitment later than usual. But we’d surpassed our fundraising goals every year for the past four years, so… why not one more time, right!?
Unfortunately, in 2014, we didn’t raise the $20K needed to hit $100,000 raised for Movember. But we did raise $16,183! Not too shabby!
Here are the fundraising totals year-by-year…
2014: $16,183
2013: $29,391
2012: $24,434
2011: $20,700
2010: $4,577
2009: $1,057.92
Total: $96,342.92
Looks like 2015 is gonna be the year we bust through the $100,000 ceiling!
This year, the Midwest team raised the most funds with $7,983, followed by the Far East with $4,514, and then the Northwest with $3,686.
And here’s the network leaderboard for individual fundraising…
It was another amazing team effort this year, and I’m awarding Dan Gibbons his second M.M.G.M. MVP award this year for leading his team to the highest amount of funds raised, while also raising the most as an individual. Nice work, Dan!
[I’ve only awarded an MVP award since the creation of the Ministry of Mustache Growth & Management four years ago. Past winners include Dan Gibbons (2011), Joe Harrington (2012), and Marc Schork-Morency (2013).]
As always, I have to thank all of my teammates—the 55 members of the M.M.G.M. network that signed up this year, grew mustaches, and raised funds! You guys (and gals) are the best! And a huge, huge thank you to the many, many more people who donated to our cause! We’ve now raised $96K to help raise awareness about men’s health and to help fight men’s cancer. It’s all thanks to you folks. Thank you all so much!
And don’t forget, next Movember is less than a year away!
