A while back, I had a silly idea. It was a notion of what would become a short comic story and—though I doubted anything would ever come of it—I sat down and wrote the script so I could get the idea out of my head and down on paper, freeing me up to move on to the next silly idea.
More recently, the uber-talented Ethan Young wrapped up his amazing, moving, and powerful graphic novel Nanjing: The Burning City, which I have the pleasure of editing. It’s a book about the horrors of war, and naturally, delving so deeply into that left us both a bit emotionally exhausted, though extremely happy with the work. So, when we moved on to Ethan’s next pitch and I saw how incredibly quickly he produced beautiful storyboards, I thought I’d ask this fellow basketball fan (who was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first son) if he wanted to do something goofy and just-for-fun as bit of a palate-cleanser. Ethan graciously agreed and the very goofy results recently ran in their entirety on Comics Alliance.
I wrote it, Ethan drew and lettered it (in only ten hours! WOW!), and now you can read it here. Enjoy!
Big thanks to my partner-in-crime Ethan Young! (Check out the full cover for Nanjing: The Burning City here, as well as a preview of the book at The Beat!) And many thanks to Matt D. Wilson and Janelle Asselin for premiering the comic on Comics Alliance!
