Sometimes you just have to put your foot down.

Great Comic Quotes: Dylan Dog
I recently finished Dark Horse’s massive collection of horror-filled detective stories straight from Italy (though the stories take place in and around London) entitled “The Dylan Dog Case Files.” It’s definitely enjoyable stuff, so I highly recommend checking it out—especially if you like a little deduction with your scary stories. The case files are full of great quotes, but due to the book’s binding much of it is extremely difficult to scan. However, this gem in writer Tiziano Sclavi’s tale “Dawn of the Living Dead” (illustrated by Angelo Stano) fell on a page corner and I could schmoosh it down enough to scan it in.

Great Comic Quotes: Solomon Kane
This simple but super badass action movie line comes from issue #4 of Solomon Kane: The Castle of the Devil by Scott Allie and Mario Guevara.

Great Comic Quotes: Umbrella Academy
I was rereading Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite and just had to highlight a few lines. This whole series is pretty damn quotable, but here’s a line you have to love from issue #2.

Great Comic Quotes: One more from ‘Fear Agent’
I did some rereading after my last Great Comic Quotes post, which came from Dark Horse’s Fear Agent, and decided I had to post this one as well. I think it’s awesomeness is pretty self-explanatory.

Great Comic Quotes: More from ‘Fear Agent’
Rick Remender’s action-packed sci-fi comic Fear Agent is always good for a quotable. Series protagonist Heath Huston is often quoting Samuel Clemens within the book’s pages and he’s usually the man who ends up with the best lines as well. Though this selection isn’t quite as raucous as the last Fear Agent line I posted here, it did have a more subtle quotability that I enjoyed.

Great Comic Quotes: Clothes make the manimal
Stan Sakai’s long-running Usagi Yojimbo is about a ronin (masterless samurai) who’s a rabbit in a feudal Japan populated entirely by anthropomorphic animals. In the second issue of Usagi published at Mirage, the long-eared samurai and his companion Gen—a ronin rhino—run into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The turtles were summoned to Usagi’s world by a Splinter-esque rat named Kakera in hopes they would help Usagi and Gen protect him and a village of peaceful farmers from a clan of ninjas. Obviously, an awesome team-up, but what I really loved was this page where the Turtles are trying to reason out how and why so many giant talking animals populate Usagi’s world.

Great Comic Quotes: Fury’s Epitaph
Though I can relate to Nick Fury’s sentiment as he and James Woo fight for their lives against Centurius and his crazy creatures in issue #2 of Jim Steranko’s Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., I think he may have coined the coolest tombstone epitaph of all time.
Skrull Beatlemania
I’ve recently been binging on remastered Beatles albums and it got me to thinking about four of my favorite deceased Marvel characters: The Skrull Beatles!

Get your ‘Goats’
I recently read Goats: Infinite Typewriters by Jonathan Rosenberg, a collection of his webcomic you can find at Goats.com. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire read and it’s lovely mix of high concept discussion and low brow ridiculousness, more so than I could describe in the brief post I imagined this being—the simple point is, whether I yammer on about it or not, you should read it. Rosenberg does an amazing job of using shorter syndicated style strips to weave intricate plot lines and running jokes into an amazingly satisfying read that really makes you feel as though you’ve earned every bit of enjoyment.
