Lollapalooza 2013

Continuing what is now a three-year tradition with my brother Dan, I attended Lollapalooza in Chicago again this year. This year our sister Lexie and my lovely girlfriend Katie came along to partake in three days of music, smuggled rum, Roman Cokes, sunshine, dancing, aching legs, and too many slices of Chicago-style deep dish.

Here’s a list of the bands that, in some capacity, we saw so that you can judge how cool I am (I think I might be kinda cool.) and how good my taste in music is. (At least I think it’s pretty good.)

Going to this festival every year, hearing music from bands I know and bands I’ve just been made aware of… Well, it’s tiring as hell, but it’s also a blast! It makes me feel extremely old, yet makes me feel young again at the same time. It’s exhausting and exhilarating. It’s fun and it’s frantic.

Fingers crossed the tradition continues next year!

Mustache Blast from the Past: Matt Lubicky

Before the 15 man mustache-growing force of Mammoth-Stache there was a dynamic duo. Known as The Venerable Gentleman… FROM SPACE!, my compadre Matthew Lubicky and I teamed up for Movember 2009 and put our hairy faces to the task of raising funds and having fun in the process. By the time the dust settled, we’d raised over $1,100 and produced numerous hilarious photos, goofy doodles and—thanks to Matt and his buddy Alex Mallis—a few fantastic videos. Mustache Blast from the Past

I’m as hirsute as a man can be. No secret there. However, many of you may have wondered how I came to be so hairy, especially on and around my face. Was it exposure to gamma radiation that made my handsome mug sprout a forest of whiskers? Perhaps I was a scrawny young man with cheeks as smooth as a baby’s bottom until Dr. Erskine injected me with some sort of super shaggy formula. While I can’t confirm or deny these theories—doing so would put countless lives in danger—I can verify that I come from a proud mustache tradition. In fact, a mustache was present at the union of my parents!

Continuing a Pre-San Diego tradition

Last year, I drew a cartoon for my buddy Josh Wigler as he worked vigorously to prepare for Comic-Con International in San Diego. Josh used that cartooned image of himself for his Twitter icon up until last week… when he asked me to doodle him up a new face to run alongside his tweets. Busy with Comic-Con prep work for Dark Horse myself, not to mention I needed to do laundry and other assorted chores in preparation of a week away from home, I still wanted to keep the tradition going and doodled up this new image while washing my unmentionables.
